Deforestation

• Forests around the world are threatened either by clearance, clearcutting or removal of a large sections of forest or groups of trees. 

• In many cases, the land is then converted to a non-forest use. Deforestation can involve conversion of forest land to farms, ranches, or urban use. The most concentrated deforestation occurs in Amazon rainforests.

• Trees are also cut and in many cases illegally sold to markets which are then used for building materials or making furniture.
