Forests around the world are threatened either by clearance, clearcutting or removal of a large sections of forest or groups of trees.
In many cases, the land is then converted to a non-forest use. Deforestation can involve conversion of forest land to farms, ranches, or urban use. The most concentrated deforestation occurs in Amazon rainforests.
Trees are also cut and in many cases illegally sold to markets which are then used for building materials or making furniture.
